James D. Trail
Practicing in both federal and state court, James Trail represents clients in complex litigation concerning a wide variety of subject matters, with a particular emphasis on real-estate-related matters, contractual disputes, supplementary proceedings, commercial disputes, construction law and securities law. In 2017, James’ successful dismissal of a multi-count securities fraud complaint filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois was featured on the front-page of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. The article discussed James’ successful opposition to the plaintiffs’ attempts to exploit an unsettled area of securities law. The case was James’ second published dismissal of a related securities fraud case for the same client.
James grew up in Mattawan, Michigan and attended Michigan State University where he was a member of the varsity crew team. He enjoys playing hockey, golf, spending time with family and any activity that involves a body of water. He is an active member of the community as a former big brother in the Big Brother Big Sisters program and hopes to continue volunteering with his dog in area hospitals and retirement communities in the near future.
